The name may be proprietary to a single nation but the American freezer is as popular in the United States as it is in other countries.  Also known as the side by side refrigerator, it offers many advantages that other refrigerator types cannot provide, thus, accounting for its popularity.  After all, the simultaneous cooling on one side and freezing on the other side capacity provides for more convenience to the busy homeowners.

While it is nice to find an American refrigerator/ ice freezer for a great price at a freezer sale, money cannot be the only consideration. You can get the same storage from other types of freezers of course you might have to give up a few conveniences. However, you must also figure out where you will put the larger appliance plus pay for higher energy bills in the process. If the only reason you were considering purchasing an American fridge is to keep up appearances, give up the idea.

Features: Standard and Premium

An American fridge just like any other will offer both premium and standard features. Of course, as you would expect when you add premium features you will also add to the final price of the unit. This is in keeping with the American sense of capitalism but is a fair exchange for quality.

The following are the features most commonly found in virtually all of American fridge models, give or take a few conveniences:

Defrost- When you purchase a new fridge it will most likely have an automatic defrost built in. No more annoying manual defrost required. Anti-Bacterial Agent- Inside the fridges lining there is an added agent called microban. This will inhibit the growth of harmful organisms such as fungi, algae and bacteria, which will keep your food fresh and safe in the device.

The temperature quickly lowers down to -26 degree Celsius, in contrast with the -18 degree Celsius found in other refrigerator types, so that optimal conditions for freezing and cooling foods are maintained without the ice build-up.

It is not uncommon to find self-closing doors, water and ice in the door, LCD touch screens, safety spill glass and temperature warning systems in today’s refrigerators. Overall, these key features have made American fridge one of the most advanced.

Consumption and Efficiency

Energy efficiency has become the gold standard in American markets and nearly all new American fridge models will bear the symbol Energy Star. What this tells you is that the product bearing the label will use less energy that the federal standard mandates, about 20-30% less. The consumer saves on their electric bill while decreasing their carbon footprint.

You can enjoy significant energy savings if you will follow a few basic tips. Keep your fridge located away from heat sources and direct sunlight, do not overload your fridge and clean the coils on a regular basis.

Many American fridges were created to become an integrated piece of the kitchen as a whole. In such cases, you will have to find an area appropriate to build the fridge into the wall instead of pushed up against it. You can add decorative shelves around the fridge to make it even more beautiful and balance the room.
